Paul Reese Maxey was born on December 22, 1901, in South Solon, Ohio.

His father, Wilson Raymond, was 28 and his mother, Martha Jane Reese, was 27.  Paul grew up in southern Ohio.

He married Mamie Opal STONE on August 10, 1928, in Montgomery, West Virginia. They had three children during their marriage.

Paul worked as a mining engineer and supervisor.
