Sheep in a Heap

We had taken sheep to the livestock action for many years.

And every year as the burly auction hands, nodded and unloaded but they never cracked a smile or spoke a word.  One year our truck broke down and we resorted to invention; sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Sheep in a car

Our old car creaked and groaned as it pulled up to the loading dock and the first hand jumped down from the gate. Had we looked closely, we might have noticed a hand signal here and a nod of the head there as the auction hands quietly gathered around our car, serious and stern faced as ever.

Finally, one by one they burst out laughing and the auctioneer announced “Oh, my God, them sheeps wearing seatbelts!”

Not sure we ever did use that particular auction yard again.
