Drawdy Falls – A Fish Tale

When Baby Bill was about seven, the family went on a picnic and fishing trip to Drawdy Falls near Racine.

A great time was had by all. Dad and Mother caught several fish; one or two were too small to keep. These were thrown back in but didn’t survive. His parents proceeded fishing downstream without noticing the dead fish.

Baby Bill, realizing the necessity of food conservation for the WWII effort, waded in and recaptured these ‘belly up” fish and quietly put them in the big pouches on the backs of the front seats of the old Hudson car.

Days passed and the smell multiplied significantly before the source was discovered. Baby Bill’s popularity was at a low-ebb when the family discovered he was the culprit that put the fish  in the car. The dead fish smell could never be eliminated and probably resulted in a low trade in value.
